Analgesics

Mundipharma's independent associates are market leaders in the development and marketing of strong analgesics for the treatment of moderate and severe pain. There are many different formulations, including patches, tablets or injections, to suit both clinician and patient needs. New formulations and products that can minimise side effects are constantly being developed and evaluated through rigorous clinical development programmes.

The main promoted products are highlighted below:

  • Buprenorphine transdermal patches
  • Hydromorphone range
  • Oxycodone range

Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches

The Norspan® / BuTrans® patch contains buprenorphine and is the first seven day analgesic patch available. It is indicated for the treatment of moderate, chronic non-malignant pain. Norspan® / BuTrans® is part of a collaboration with Grünenthal that was organised via our Business Development Team.

Hydromorphone Range

Palladone® / Hydal® contains the strong semi-synthetic opioid hydromorphone, which is licensed for severe cancer pain (dependent upon local country licence). The hydromorphone range currently includes slow release (SR) capsules and immediate release (IR) capsules.

Oxycodone Range

Oxycodone is a strong opioid available as either OxyContin® (prolonged release tablets) or the OxyNorm® range (immediate release capsules, liquid and concentrate and a solution for injection or infusion). OxyContin® tablets and the OxyNorm® range are indicated in the United Kingdom for the treatment of moderate to severe pain in patients with cancer and post operative pain, and for the treatment of severe pain requiring the use of a strong opioid (indications differ by country, dependent on local country licence).

The oxycodone range has a recent addition: Targin® * is a prolonged release oral combination of the opioid agonist oxycodone and the opioid antagonist naloxone. Targin® is indicated for the treatment of severe pain, which can be adequately managed only with opioid analgesics. The opioid antagonist naloxone is added to counteract opioid induced constipation.

Targin® has been marketed in Germany since October 2006, following a fast track approval by the German regulatory authorities. Recently Targin® has been approved in several other European countries.

* Targin® is also registered as Targinact™ and Targiniq™
